Bengaluru: Recently, the market has seen an increase in fake medicines, causing serious impacts on public health and claiming several lives. In this context, the death of around 11 children after consuming cough syrup has shocked the medical community.

The incident occurred in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, where some children consumed cough syrup prescribed by doctors, while others purchased it directly from medical shops. However, tests conducted by the Central Ministry of Health found no toxic chemicals in the samples.

Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao responded, stating that a virtual meeting with officials has already been held. He added that the cough syrup was supplied in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Rajasthan, but not in Karnataka. As a precaution, samples of other brands are being tested, and results will be shared once available.

He further assured that since the supply reached only a few districts in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka will not be affected.
