Koppal: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dismissed Union Minister V. Somanna’s allegation that the survey is being conducted to target upper castes as baseless. Speaking to the media in Koppal, he said that without conducting surveys on the economic, social, and educational status of people, it is impossible to understand their position in society.
He clarified that the survey does not aim to target any caste, and those opposing the creation of an egalitarian society are misleading the public with such statements. Surveys of 1.10 crore families have already been completed, and as of yesterday, 63% of the survey work has been carried out. The government will review the survey progress by tomorrow evening before deciding on any extension.
Regarding Lingayat Religion:
Around 97% of the survey in Koppal district has been completed, which is good progress. Some people opposing societal change are raising voices against the survey. On the matter of Lingayat religion, respondents have voluntarily declared their religion, and surveyors record it as such. The Chief Minister stated, “The stance of the people is my stance.”
On Cough Medicines:
Children in various states have fallen ill after consuming cough medicine. The Health Department has been instructed to monitor the situation closely. The department has already tested the cough medicines available in the state, and if any dangerous elements are found, appropriate action will be taken, he said.
